THE BEATLES Introducing The Beatles (1964 US 12-track mono LP on the colourband with bracketed logo label & hand scratched matrices and circled 'MR' [indicating a record pressed at Monarch/L.A.] in the vinyl run off area, housed in a back pasted picture sleeve. This is the second version where 'Love Me Do' & 'P.S. I Love You' were replaced with 'Please Please Me' & 'Ask Me Why', please see more info for pressing/condition details...VJLP1062)

TRACKLISTING AND EXTRA INFORMATION
Background

This was the first Beatles album released in America, with the version two of the album very quickly following version one into the shops. The reason for the two versions of the album was that Beechwood Music took out an injunction against Vee-Jay because they didn't have the rights to issue the tracks that had previously appeared on the 'Love Me Do' single. Vee-Jay consequently had to re-tool the album to remove the offending two tracks, which were replaced by 'Please Please Me' and 'Ask Me Why'.

As it turned out, this was probably a better track selection for the album anyway.

This change was executed in January 1964 & the 'Version Two' album was back in the shops by the 10th of February. In the end, this album eventually sold 1.3 million of the Mono & nearly 42,000 of the Stereo LP versions. Sales of the 'Version One' amounted to 79,000 Mono & 1,000 Stereo. It can be seen at a glance that the ratio of Stereo to Mono was still very small, even in the United States.

Condition & Specifics

The Sleeve

This variant of the Version Two Mono sleeve with a comma in 'Please, Please Me' on the rear slick.

The condition is very pleasing indeed, with just a little light shelfwear evident. The front & rear show minimal discolouration, with just some edge scuffing in places. There are a couple of places with the edges have scuffed and started to split, with all text clearly legible. The spine is intact with all text clearly readable.

The Vinyl

The labels are the colourband type with the Vee-Jay logo in white & bracketed above the silver text. The labels have corrected the 'Coffin-King' credit to 'Chains'.
This Monarch pressing DOES NOT have 'LONG PLAYING' & 'MICROGROOVE' on the labels.

The vinyl shows some faint hairlines in places, nothing excessive and nothing to detract from the audio - overall Excellent.

Records pressed at Monarch in Los Angeles are often noted for their superior sound quality.

The multitude of label configurations that this album came with defy belief, certainly not for the feint hearted!

All information in the run off areas of the vinyl is scratched, apart from the Monarch logo.

The matrices read as follows:

Matrix / Runout (Side One label): 63-3402
Matrix / Runout (Side Two label): 63-3403
Matrix / Runout (Side One etched [(MR) stamped]): 63-3402 / 3
Matrix / Runout (Side Two etched [(MR) stamped]): 63-3402
