This was one of the last 'swirl' releases and most copies of this that surface are on the 'spaceship' label, which replaced the 'swirl' design in late 1972.
An astonishing debut from the band although not the first from Alex Harvey, with a switch from blues to heavy rock & roll with even a tinge of folk at times.
Highlights of this album being the classic title track, Hammer Song [later covered by Nick Cave], St. Anthony and the fantastic Isobel Goudie.
Condition:
Almost all copies of this release suffer from a serious degree of shelfwear, and this one is a typical example.
The sleeve shows a degree of scuffing to the spine, edges and corners, along with spots of discolouration in places, most noticable inside the gatefold.
There are the usual beginnings of splits at the ends of the gatefold but the die cut window on the front is remarkably still sharp edged.
Far from perfect but intact, complete & in acceptable 'vintage' condition.
The vinyl shows a degree of play but not to excess. Upon close inspection there are a few surface scuffs evident on either side but these have no effect on play whatsoever. Surface noise, while not eliminated, is kept to quiet passages and between tracks.
Far from mint, but an acceptable copy of this magnificent album at an advantageous price.
