CRESSIDA Asylum (1994 Japanese 8-track remastered CD,
originally released in 1971 on a the 'swirl' Vertigo label, this cult
Art Rock classic offers a blend of McCartney-esque vocals &
Symphonic Progressive Rock filled with adventurous instrumental
sections; booklet picture sleeve with all text in Japanese, with the
'Vertigo Classics Super Price' obi-strip PHCR-4209)
TRACKLISTING AND EXTRA INFORMATION
Cressida's Asylum is a fantastic example of early British symphonic Progressive Rock. It marries catchy Paul McCartney-esque vocals with adventurous instrumental sections. Superb vocal melodies regarded as some of the best from the Prog era coupled with charmingly naive lyrics
The instrumental sections have its origins in the style typical of early seventies Prog Rock with the music driven by a dirty & mellow Hammond organ with classic piano, bass, guitar & drums. At times this sound was augmented with a small orchestra with violins, cellos, trumpets & timpani.
The first side of the album has a theme based on its title with the second side featuring a couple of short filler tracks ending with a triumphant epic.
Widely regarded as the best album to come out of that school of early British symphonic Prog. This is beautiful, melancholic and mostly mellow & atmospheric. There is quite simply a British charm that blends its morose charm with lovely orchestral Mellotron sounds that appear throughout the album.
If three words could describe this album then they would graceful, sublime & classic.
1. Asylum
2. Munich
3. Goodbye Post Office Tower Goodbye
4. Survivor
5. Reprieved
6. Lisa
7. Summer Weekend Of A Lifetime
8. Let Them Come When They Will
