THE ARTWOODS Art Gallery (Very Rare 1966 UK first press
12-track mono vinyl LP on the deep groove unboxed red
Decca label, the one & only album from the influential British
Mod/Freakbeat band, featuring the talents of Arthur [Art]
Wood on vocals [Ronnie Wood's brother], Derek Griffiths on
guitar, Malcolm Pool on bass, a pre-Deep Purple Jon Lord on
organ & the great Keef Hartley on drums. This album was an
important part of the 60s British RnB movement but rarely
surfaces for sale.Ideal for Animals, Rolling Stones, Deep
Purple, Alexis Korner, Georgie Fame, Yardbirds, Zoot Money,
John Mayall & Who collectors alike, 'Art Gallery' is packed
with some choice nuggets & obscure covers, the album title
alone hinted at a much bigger 'art rock' movement to come in
Britain. Includes the psychedelic-tinged 'Keep Lookin' & the
RnB screamer 'Stop & Think It Over'! Comes housed in the
original front laminated picture sleeve complete with the
original die-cut Decca company inner. See 'more info' for
condition details... LK4830)
TRACKLISTING AND EXTRA INFORMATION
Condition
The front laminated picture sleeve is in nice condition. There are a few creases in the laminate on the front, with some creases along the spine.
The non-laminated back is free from writing and displays some minor age discolouration and ringwear, and has a few small nicks along the opening edge, but still looks really nicem and includes the original poly lined inner sleeve.
The labels have no tears or writing, with just a few light spindle marks around the centre hole.
The matrices are machine stamped in the run-outs & both end '1A'.
The vinyl is strictly graded Very Good. There are some noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch, but thanks to the high-quality 60s heavy vinyl, these are cosmetic and displays no major deterioration in sound quality.
This record is so difficult to find, even when Decca's pressing plant, in theory being a mere hour's drive from us here, we have only ever seen two other copies.
This album must have sold very poorly on release with any copies left in circulation quickly ending up in private collections & with most finding their way abroad it seems.
Although we are grading this as Very Good, it is still a really nice example.
