THELONIOUS MONK Monk's Dream (Astounding audiophile
quality stereo 180-gram vinyl LP pressing at 33RPM from
Impex Records, remastered from the original all-analogue
tapes by Kevin Gray and pressed at RTI. Tight, controlled bass
lays low undersupple mids and crisp highs in ways even the
best original pressing can't touch. Originally released in
March 1963 Monk's legendary quartet, Charlie Rouse (tenor
sax), John Ore (bass), and Frankie Dunlop (drums) work
seamlessly together and the album lives up to its reputation
as a hallmark late bop session. Faithfully reproduced sleeve
and Columbia labels of the finest quality, sealed with its gold
elliptical Impex Records sticker. Another beautiful pressing!)
TRACKLISTING AND EXTRA INFORMATION
Monk’s debut recording for Columbia Records comprises of several tunes previously recorded for Riverside combined with newer material. This ALL MUSIC GUIDE recommended disc lives up to its reputation as a hallmark late bop session in spite of the redundancy of old material because Monk’s legendary quartet, Charlie Rouse (tenor sax), John Ore (bass), and Frankie Dunlop (drums) work seemlessly together, pushing and pulling along with and sometimes against Monk’s rectilinear playing. As All Music’s Lindsay Planer says: “the tight–almost telepathic–dimensions that these four shared has rarely been equalled in any genre.” You have to hear it to believe it.
Side 1
1. Monk’s Dream
2. Body and Soul
3. Bright Mississippi
4. Five Spot Blues
Side 2
1. Bolivar Blues
2. Just a Gigolo
3. Bye-Ya
4. Sweet and Lovely
