Condition : -
The pasted picture sleeve, complete with original catalogue inner, has survived over half a century in spectacular condition. Cannonball Adderley's name is misspelt 'Adderly' & 'Flamenco Sketches' is listed before 'All Blues' [the labels list them the other way round]. The colours are still bright & vivid & both sides clean, with clearly legible text all over including along the spine. There are no splits & the edges reveal just the lightest signs of scuffing or shelf wear, astonishing considering it's unlaminated. With a tiny number annotation to the bottom right hand corner on the back, & a few light indentation hairline marks on the front, the cover is a beautiful example, graded VG+.
The labels have no writing or tears & bear the 'deep groove' both sides & the iconic 'six eye' Columbia label design. 'Nonbreakable' is printed in black to the left hand side. There are just one or two faint marks by the spindle hole.
The matrix numbers in the trail off are machine stamped 'XLP47324-1D' & 'XLP47325-1AD' either side. Regarding the letters, the myth goes that Columbia worked through the alphabet, first with single then double letters (A to NJ, B to Indiana, C to CA & so on).
The heavyweight vinyl has been professionally cleaned & play tested. Note: we would highly recommend a MONO only setting during your listening experience as this would eliminate unwanted surface noise left & right in the stereo field [this record is real MONO & designed as such]. We grade the vinyl VG/VG- & playback is far higher with no distortion & crystal clear sonics in places. Miles insisted on an open snare sound when recording for subtle ambience, & the light surface noise detectable in places only adds to the atmosphere. Visually, there are a couple of light hairlines marks both sides, with no jumps during play. There are a series of light clicks at the start of 'Flamenco Sketches' not spoiling the performance too much, & the classic intro to So What still packs a punch to this day. By no means mint, this is an historic disc in nice condition & affordable.
Simply wonderful this album, despite any condition flaws... pure aural ambrosia!
